Description: This spectacular pen and ink and watercolor rendering depicts locomotive 201 of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. In exquisite detail the artist, George E. Shawde, shows the intricacies of the engine mechanics, as well as, the stones and wood that make up the rail bed.

At the lower right in period ink is noted: “A.D. 1875”. It is drawn on a 20 1/2″ x 33″ piece of paper which is adhered to an early piece of pasteboard (probably originally). Item #FA00365

The Central Railroad of New Jersey had its origins in the late 1830’s and adopted its name after an 1849 consolidation of the Elizabethtown & Somerville Railroad and the Sommerville & Easton Railroad.

Condition: Light toning and soil, generally very good.
