Description: Frederic Edwin Church (1826-1900) was a central figure in the 19th American landscape painting movement known as the Hudson River School. His intact home/studio, Olana, is a New York State historic site.

In this one page autograph letter signed, Church writes to Messrs. F.W. Devoe & Co. (manufacturers of artists’ pigments, etc.) "Your letter of Nov. 13th returning my check – a duplicate of one previously sent – I have received and thank you therefor. My books show that I had previously paid the amount of $28.35".

Written on a sheet of 7" x 4 1/2" graph-like paper. It is matted and framed with an image of Church and an image of one of his paintings to: 14" x 28". Comes with excellent provenance having been sold by the noted autograph retail firm, Walter R. Benjamin. Included is the 1992 sales receipt, as well as, a photo copy of the check referenced in the letter. Item #A00824.

Condition: Fold lines, nick to lower right blank margin, otherwise good condition (not examined out of frame).
