Description: On January 30, 1852, the American jurist and politician William Wilkins (1779-1865) penned and signed this brief letter in which he states his support of William C. Patterson as “the President of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Rail Road Company.” William C. Patterson served as President of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company from September 1, 1849 until February 2, 1852. Apparently, Patterson’s term was up only a few days after this letter was written.
William Wilkins served as a U.S. federal judge, a representative for Pennsylvania in both the House and the Senate, and as the Secretary of War (1844-1845) under President John Tyler.
