Description: Thomas Bruce (1766-1841), a Scottish nobleman and diplomat, gained an enduring place in history for his saving/removing significant marble sculptures from the Parthenon in Athens. These live on as the "Elgin Marbles" and are housed at the British Museum.

In this two-page letter, Bruce recommends a young soldier to Lord Amherst and signs boldly "Elgin". 7" x 9" sheet is folded to make four pages with the last two pages blank except for docketing. Item # A00431.

Condition: Light soil and creases, two short separations at edges (not affecting text) repaired with archival tape, but generally very good.
