Description: This short letter, written to John Savage, Esq. states: "One hundred dols. is deposited in the Manhattan bank to the account of the state. I have the Cashier’s certificate which I intend to take along with me… Delhi 12 Dec. ’22." The letter has an integral address panel which has his free frank as Postmaster of Delhi [NY].

Root (1773-1846) had a lengthy career in New York State politics, as well as, two terms as a U.S. Congressman. This letter was written while serving as New York’s Lieutenant Governor.
