Description: French playwright and novelist Charles Paul de Kock (1793-1871) neatly penned and signed this letter to Mr. Seraillier of the Royal Theater Comic Opera in 1819. De Kock requests that his play A Night at the Chateau, which hasn’t been performed recently though it had received a flattering welcome, be added to the week’s repertoire again.
 
Paul de Kock became famous for his witty stories of middle-class Parisian life. Some of his most well-received works were Georgette, ou la Nièce du tabellion, Le Barbier de Paris, and André le Savoyard.
 
This autograph letter signed is written in French on a sheet of 9 ½” x 7” paper. Item #A00994.
 
Condition: A small mounting remnant on verso, 1/2″ tear in upper blank margin repaired with archival tissue/tape, a couple of small stains also in blank margins, overall in good condition with a bold exuberant signature.
