Description: McKean signed this part-printed vellum land grant document as Governor of Pennsylvania (1799-1808). He grants “a certain Tract of land, called ‘Prospect’ situate in the late Purchase now Potter County.” Verso verification of listing in the land office is signed by Timothy Matlack.

Thomas McKean (1734-1817) served as President of Delaware and was a Delaware delegate to the Continental Congress (and President of the Congress) where he signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation.

Timothy Matlack (1736-1829), Secretary of Pennsylvania during the American Revolution, was chosen to inscribe the original Declaration of Independence.
