Description: In this part-printed document on paper, dated Oct. 14, 1794, Clinton appoints “Christian Hoffman Captain of a Company in the Regiment of Artillery in the City and County of New York whereof Sebastian Bauman Esquire is Lieutenant Colonel Commandant.” Signed boldly in the left margin: “Geo. Clinton.”
George Clinton (1739-1812) served as Governor of New York from 1777 to 1795 and from 1801 to 1804. He also was U.S. Vice President (under two different presidents) from 1805 until his death in 1812.

Condition: Partial loss to paper seal and offsetting, fold lines with some archival tissue/tape reinforcement on verso. Generally good condition with an especially strong signature.
