Description: James Duane (1733-1797), one of the delegates to the 1774 Continental Congress and the 44th Mayor of New York City, boldly signed this 1788 manuscript document concerning payment for “the erection of Watch Boxes”.
Duane was a Revolutionary leader from New York whose illustrious political career also included serving as a state senator and a U.S. District Judge. Duane was a signatory of the Continental Association and the Articles of Confederation as well.
