Description

Description: This attractive six percent interest bond has an engraving of a pine tree encircled by a snake and an intricate lower border entwining and highlighting the warning: “Death to Counterfeit This.” Signature of the Treasurer, H. Gardner, at bottom right is pen cancelled.

Verso is dated Nov. 26th, 1779 and states: “Rcd: the contents of the 4th note of James Any” signed: “Reuben Slayton Capt. [&] Wm. Greenleaf.” Item #AM00297

Condition: Two vertical fold lines with short separations repaired with archival tissue/tape, two edge tears (also reinforced), light soil, generally very good.
