Description: We offer a signed drypoint etching by Hungarian artist Willy Pogany. The image is 8 ⅞” x 6 ⅞” matted in a thin gold frame (15” x 12 ¾”). Signed in pencil at the lower right and editioned at the lower left, 34/100, below the plate line. This gestural portrait of a nude woman laying amongst draped fabric shows Pogany’s skill as a draftsman. Item #PR00176.
Willy Pogany (1882-1955) was born in Szeged, Hungary. He studied engineering in Budapest before switching to fine arts. He persued his artistic studies in Munich and Paris before moving to London in 1905. Ten years later he moved to New York and worked as book illustrator, interior and set designer.
Condition: Not examined out of frame, appears to be framed with archival mat board, not laid down, good condition.
