Description: We offer an ink drawing by the American artist Roger Baker, presumably the Archangel Gabriel blowing a trumpet. It is 10” x 7 ¼” on tinted Canson-esque paper with a linen finish that measures 11”x 8 ¼” and signed at the lower left in ink. It is presented in an acid free mat that measures 15 ¾” x 12 ¼". Roger Baker was born in West Virginia in 1925. He worked in New York City and exhibited artwork with several galleries during the 1950’s and 60’s including Helene C. Seiferheld and Karnig Gallery. His papers and artwork in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Harvard Libraries.
Condition: There is a 1” tear at the upper left corner, well away from the drawing. The paper is slightly toned and there is a darkened residue on the margins on verso from prior framing. The drawing remains in good presentable condition.
