|Description: We offer an original oil on canvas painting by Ann Brockman, 14 1/8” x 12”, framed to 21 ¾” x 19 5/8” and signed at the bottom left. With her softened, painterly sensibility, Brockman depicts a woman in a striking red skirt and shoes edging away from her suiter’s advances. Item #FA00142.
Ann Brockman was born in Alameda, California in 1899, and died in New York in 1943, though she was mostly active as an artist in Rockport, Massachusetts. She studied with Gifford Beal and John Sloan at the Art Students League in New York City and was an instructor at the Cape Ann School of Art. Her work is in the collection of the Smithsonian.
Condition: The painting on canvas has been laid down to a board and there are some some small areas of in-painting in the craquelure (away from the figures and detail). Overall good presentable condition.
