Description: A classic painting by one of Switzerland's major painters of the 19th century. Robert Zünd (1827-1909) studied with Jakob Schwegler and Joseph Zelger, and later, in Geneva, worked with Francoise Diday and Alexandre Calame.
This richly detailed landscape depicts a woman resting along a path at forest's edge. The path opens up to a light vista of fields, water and mountains as a backdrop.
Painted on a board of Zünd's typical size: 5 1/4" x 7 1/2".
Signed lower right: "R. Zünd". Item #FA00140.
Condition: Painting has scattered spots of old inpainting that have darkend (the most prominent spot is the peak of the mountain in the background). Painting at some point had slipped low in the bottom rabbet concealing the signature - now there is a line 1/8" up from the bottom that bisects the signature. Gilded frame, which has been painted gold, has been with the painting for a very long time, if not original to it. (7 1/2" x 9 3/4").
