Horowitz began playing the piano at an early age and entered the Kiev Conservatory in 1912. He toured Europe and made his debut in the United States in the 1920s, and continued to play publicly until 1983. Horowitz was revered for his ability to connect with an audience, his unparalleled technique and the rich tone he could coax from a piano.
