Description

Description: We offer a signed pencil drawing by the German artist Paul Friedrich Meyerheim, initialed and inscribed at the bottom right "PM. Wilmersdorf 1 Mai 1862." Estate stamp on verso has the artist's full signature. Admire the dynamic tonal range in this simple sketch of three ducks waddling around shabby agrarian outbuildings. On a 11 5/8" x 9" sheet of laid paper.

Paul Meyerheim (1842-1915) was taught art by his father, the painter Friedrich Eduard Meyerheim. As a young boy he spent so much time at the Berlin Zoological Gardens he befriended Martin Lichtenstein, the zoo's founder, who allowed him into areas that were normally closed to the public. This formative experience certainly led him to become an animalier artist. Item #FA00090.

Condition: Some toning at edges, two pin holes and a small crescent-shaped stain at the top margin, a small crease at the bottom corner, otherwise very good.
