Description: American librettist and theatrical producer Oscar Hammerstein II (1895-1960) signed this 10 ¼” x 7 ½” sheet of paper beneath a quirky tipped-on image of himself. Hammerstein looks almost exasperated in the image, holding a hand to his head as three costumed figures stand and dance on bars of music over his left shoulder. The surrounding red and black lined border echoes the style of a Time magazine cover.
Hammerstein is best remembered for being one half of the famous duo, Rodgers and Hammerstein, which produced such theatrical standards as Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. During his almost forty-year-long career, Hammerstein won eight Tony Awards and two Academy Awards for Best Original Song. Item #A00784.
Condition: Signature is a little faded, paper is toned from where it was once matted, otherwise in good condition.
