|Description: We offer an original sandpaper drawing of Washington’s Monument in Baltimore, Maryland. The piece is 7 ⅜” x 7 ½” on thick marble dusted paper. This view is based on a print from “American Scenery” 1840-1845, with illustrations principally by William Henry Bartlett and Thomas Allom. Item #FA00170.
These drawings were made on prepared paper that was painted and sprinkled with marble dust, lending an eerie glittery effect. The drawing is unsigned, likely made by an artistically inclined layperson in the mid-nineteenth century.
Condition: There are significant surface scratches and two indentations in the paper at the middle of the lower margin.
