Description

Description: We offer a large pastel portrait of a young boy with a dog in a wide oval frame decorated with lavish cherubic details. The paper size is 27” x 20 5/8” and the outside dimensions of the frame are 35” x 30”. This exceptional, unsigned portrait is rendered with clarity and sensitivity. The boy holds gaze with the viewer in a most realistic manner, as his little dog looks up with playful adoration.

There is an original backing sheet between the art and the wooden backing board locating the piece in Scranton, Pennsylvania and Albany, New York. It retains original shipping labels from American Express and J.G. Meyers Department Store in Albany New York. The piece of paper was likely used as wrapping for something that was shipped from Albany to an “E. Page” in Scranton then repurposed as framing materials by the artist or framer.

Condition: The pastel is in good condition with excellent color, the frame shows some minor losses and hairline cracks in the gessoed details.
