Description: We offer a wonderful, impressionist winter landscape of an identified house in Woodstock, NY.
This oil on canvas laid on board is signed lower right: "John F. Carlson".
This is fresh from the home of a descendant of the original owner (and subject of painting) who received it as a gift from the artist. Verso has a lengthy 1978 note tracing the provenance from c. 1920 when Rosa Powell Magee of Woodstock received it.
Carlson (1875-1947), the American Impressionist painter and National Academician, studied with Birge Harrison at the Byrdcliffe Colony in Woodstock, NY and later (1922) opened his own school of landscape painting in Woodstock.
