Description: Italian-American sculptor Edgardo Simone (1890-1948) signed this photograph of one of his sculptures of a young nude girl who is kneeling while holding her left hand up in a supplicating gesture and what appears to be a smoking oil lamp in the other. Visible in the photo is the signature and date on the sculpture: “Edgardo Simone Detroit 20 June 1931”.
Simone studied at the Beaux Arts Academy in Rome (1906-1913) and came to the United States in the 1920’s where he made a name for himself producing busts of famous people. His bust of Theodore Dreiser is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Condition: Upper left blank corner has a small crease, not affecting the image, otherwise in very good condition with a large, bold signature.
