Description: In this letter written to New York Governor John Hoffman, Corning beseeches him to appoint Lymon Loyd as Harbor Master for the port of New York since he is "a hard working & uniform Democrat".
Corning (1794-1872) was involved in the iron industry, banking, railroads, as well as, politics. He was mayor of Albany, NY and a U.S. Congressman.
Autograph letter signed is written on a 9 1/2" x 8" sheet of ruled paper. Archivally matted with a period steel engraved portrait to: 14" x 19". Item #A00829.
