Description: American baseball player Aloysius Harry Simmons (1902-1956), or “Bucketfoot Al”, signed this clipped closing of a letter in a neatly flourished hand. The 1 ¾” x 4 5/8” piece of paper reads: “I remain Very Sincerely Yours Al Simmons”.
Simmons played as an outfielder for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Washington Senators, Boston Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and Boston Red Sox during his 20 year career. He won two World Series with the Philadelphia Athletics (1929 & 1930) and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953. He was nicknamed “Bucketfoot Al” because he strode toward third base while hitting.
Condition: Fold line, light surface soil, reinforced with a thicker paper backing, penciled “29.” at blank bottom left corner, otherwise in good condition with a large signature.
