Description: This is a bold autograph from President Chester A. Arthur on a simple White House card. "Executive Mansion, Washington." is printed in blue block type at the top center of the card, which measures 2 1/2" x 3 3/4". Arthur inked his full name across the center of the card.
The card is accompanied by a bank note engraving of Arthur; the image measures approximately 3" x 2 3/8" and is printed on an 8" x 6" piece of card stock. Item #A01115.
Chester Arthur (1829-1886) was the 21st President of the United States. He served from September of 1881, when then-President James Garfield was assassinated, until March of 1885. Rutherford B. Hayes, who was in office shortly before Arthur, is generally credited as the first to use the 'Executive Mansion Card' for sending out autographs and short notes from the White House.
Condition: Card is slightly trimmed (not affecting signature), mounting residue on verso. Generally very good condition with a large, bold signature.
