Description

Description: We offer three original watercolor illustrations of African Americans; all unsigned. The pieces are painted in India ink and watercolor on illustration boards that measure 15” x 10 ¼”. A pencil inscription on the back of the painting of the older woman holding a plate of pancakes reads “illustration [?] Feb. 8 1940.” Dox Thrash appears to be a strong influence in these portraits of seated working people with careworn, but dignified gazes. Wonderful set. Item #FA00208.

Condition: There is some toning and minor staining, especially at the margins. Overall the three paintings are in good condition with vibrant color.
