Description: Dan Beard (1850-1941) signed this card that bears a portrait of him standing in profile gazing stoically into the distance wearing an impressive fringed jacket. Beard was an American illustrator, author, and social reformer who founded the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905, which later merged with the Boy Scouts of America. He served for 30 years as one of the first National Scout Commissioners of the Boy Scouts and is credited, alongside Ernest Thompson Seton, with building the basis for the Traditional Scouting movement.
Beard also illustrated several books for Mark Twain and Ernest Crosby, and wrote numerous articles and youth-targeted columns for St. Nicholas Magazine, Woman’s Home Companion, and Boys’ Life magazine.
