|We offer a collection of 37 mounted and numbered intaglio reproductions of Classical and Renaissance masterpieces from throughout Italy. The set is housed in a 10 ½” x 6 ½” x 2” double-sided wooden box designed as a book with gilt lettered vellum spine which is titled: “Liberotti Impironte” and “Museri 3”. The intaglios are identified in manuscript Italian on front and rear pastedowns. Item #DA00189.
This is the third collection of plaster intaglios by Giovanni Liberotti, a 19th century Roman gem engraver. He marketed his intaglios to tourists and travelers, who would use his works as a visual aide-mémoires.
Condition: The boards are detached and the marbled paper is worn. About one third of the intaglios are either rubbed at their highest relief points, have minor hairline cracks, or some minor areas of loss.
