|Description: We offer a signed gelatin silver photograph by Arnold Genthe. It is 9 ¾” x 6 ¾”, signed in ink at the lower left: "Arnold Genthe, N.Y.," on the olive paper (11 ¼” x 7 ¾”) to which it is lightly tipped. Genthe’s sensitive tonal range casts a dreamy haze over this portrait of an actress in bridal garb that bares striking resemblance to Eva Le Gallienne. Item #P00116.
Arnold Genthe (1869–1942) was a German-born American photographer, best known for his photographs of San Francisco's Chinatown, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and his portraits of noted people, from politicians and socialites to literary figures and entertainers. (Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson sat for him). His work is held in collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the New York Historical Society and the Library of Congress.
Condition:The upper corner of mount is torn, not affecting the photograph which is in good untouched condition, with some minor silvering at the top margin.
