Description: French-Cuban American author Anais Nin (1903-1977) signed this first edition of her 1950 book, The Four-Chambered Heart in blue ink on the front free end paper.
Anais Nin is known for her numerous novels, essays, short stories, and volumes of erotica. She was a friend, and sometimes lover, to many of the notable literary figures of her day, including Henry Miller, John Steinbeck, Antonin Artaud, Edmund Wilson, Gore Vidal, and James Agee. She kept extensive diaries beginning at age eleven, some of which were published during her lifetime, others posthumously. Philip Kaufman directed the 1990 film Henry & June starring Fred Ward, Uma Thurman, and Maria de Medeiros, based on Nin’s diaries detailing her affair with Henry Miller and his wife, June. This book, The Four-Chambered Heart, is an autobiographical novel that relates Nin’s experiences in her tempestuous 10-year relationship with Gonzalo Moré, the Peruvian poet.
