Description: German film director and member of Adolf Hitler’s inner circle Leni Riefenstahl (1902-2003) wrote and signed this letter in somewhat garbled English to Steve Garfinkel telling him that it would be “a pleasure to meet you by my next visit in New York.”
Riefenstahl was an actress in the 1920’s and moved onto directing with her 1932 film Das Blaue Licht (“The Blue Light”), a film which brought her to the attention of Adolf Hitler. Hitler asked Riefenstahl to direct numerous films in the 1930’s, most notably the innovative and wildly effective propaganda films Triumph des Willens (“Triumph of the Will”) and Olympia. Riefenstahl had a close working relationship with Hitler, though after the war she denied ever having known the true nature of the Nazi internment camps.
