This was part of a suite of prints exalting the life and mythology of King David. The figure and facial features show a strong Byzantine influence. Rubin’s aesthetic approach has always been worldly but grounded in Jewish history, culture and landscape.
Reuvin Rubin (1893-1974) was a Romanian born Israeli artist and Israel’s first ambassador to Romania. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts. He was awarded the Dizengoff Prize in 1964 and the Israel Prize in 1973.
Condition: Lightly toned, otherwise very good untouched condition.
