Description: This 1970 check is signed (on verso) by Martin Luther King Jr.’s close friend and fellow Civil Rights activist, the Reverend Ralph Abernathy (1926-1990). Abernathy helped to organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott with Martin Luther King Jr. and was a co-founder and the second President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He received this $1338.60 check for a speaking engagement on January 22, 1970 at the Kennett Consolidated School in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.
 
Includes the program for Abernathy’s speech, “Promises and Realities”. Check measures 2 ¾” x 6”, endorsed on verso. Item #A00730.
