Description

Description: We offer a signed silkscreen print by Allen Jones. The image is 23 ½ “x 17 ¼” in a white metal frame (32¾”x25”), printed on white wove paper, signed and inscribed along the bottom margin in graphite: “Artist’s Proof Alvin Jones 65.” This work is from an edition of 50, published by Edition Alecto, London. The blindstamp is visible at the lower left corner. Item #PR00169. This abstracted women’s torso shows the influence of 1950’s fetish magazines. Jones once compared their heavily inked and cartoonish forms to those found in German expressionism, just one of the many low culture meme’s tangled up in his artwork. Allen Jones (1937) is a British pop artist best known for his paintings, sculptures, and lithography. He was awarded the Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the 1963 Paris Biennale. He is a Senior Academician at the Royal Academy of Arts. His best known work Hatstand, Table and Chair drew great criticism from feminist groups at the time for objectifying women as furniture. His work was recently shown in a large retrospective at the Royal Academy of art. Condition: Not examined out of frame, very good condition.
