|Description: This large lithograph by Federico Castellon is 15 1/16” x 20 1/2" and printed on a 19 15/16” x 25 1/2” sheet of Rives BFK. It is pencil signed, numbered, and inscribed with the title under the composition: “47/100 Poseidon’s Friend”. This surrealist riff on Poseidon lore shows intertwined sea monsters lunging at three nymphs who beckon to a large disambiguated face. The moon? Item #PR00154.
Federico Castellón (1914 – 1971) was a Spanish-American painter, sculptor, printmaker and illustrator of children's books. He was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters and an associate member of the National Academy of Design. He taught at Teachers College at Columbia University, Pratt Institute and The New School. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship twice, in 1941 and 1950.
Condition: Faint toning at the margins of the paper, otherwise untouched, fine condition.
