Description:  This program for the Governor’s Day N.Y. State Exposition is signed twice by Duke Ellington, and also bears the signatures of saxophonist Johnny Hodges, as well as, Nelson and Happy Rockefeller. Duke Ellington and his orchestra played at multiple times during the exposition which took place at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY on August 29, 1963.
 
Duke Ellington (1899-1974) exuberantly signed the verso of the program twice, writing “Good Luck” both times. Ellington had a musical career that spanned more than fifty years, beginning in the 1920’s with his orchestra’s appearances at the Cotton Club in Harlem.
 
Johnny Hodges (1907-1970) was a saxophonist in Ellington’s orchestra.
 
Nelson Rockefeller (1908-1979) was Governor of New York (1959-1973) and Vice President of the United States (1974-1977) under Gerald Ford. Happy Rockefeller (1926-2015) was his wife.
 
All signers inked their names in blue ink, except for Happy Rockefeller, who signed in pencil. Nelson Rockefeller signed his name as “Rocky”. The yellow sheet of paper measures 14” x 8 ½”. Item #A00922.
 
Condition: Fold lines, otherwise in very good condition with large, bold signatures.
