Description: We offer an oil on canvas by the German-born artist Philipp Weichberger. The painting is signed at the upper left and dated '62. The stretcher size is 24" x 18" and it is housed in a period slat frame with a gold face. It features Weichberger's common retrofuturist motifs, most prominently an industrial, brutalist ferris wheel shape, with a highly textured field in the lower half of the composition. Item #FA00156.
Born in Germany in 1936, Weichberger moved to New York City in 1965. His work was exhibited in the Biennales of Tokyo and Paris, and the "Salon Comparaisons" at the Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris. Weichberger took his life in 1985 by jumping off the top of the 13th story of the Westbeth Artists' Community in Manhattan.
