Description: We offer two albums featuring collections of the Great Seals of the United States and its possessions, one compiled between 1960 and 1961, the other compiled between 1950 and 1960. The albums were compiled by Rev. Henry Heins, a pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Albany, New York.
Larger album: 11 ¾” x 9 ½”. Navy pebbled cloth over boards with faded gilt-stamped decoration. Small spine label with “XV” in gilt stamped on same color cloth. 55 documents in total, the states are in alphabetical order. Each seal has been affixed to a piece of stationery that is specific to the state or territory and has been signed by the state governors, secretaries of state, and senators in either 1960 or 1961.
This album is a duplicate collection to one that Heins donated to the New York State Library.
The album lacks the seals of Georgia and Tennesee, and the paper with the Seal of Arkansas is laid in, not tipped in like the others. The represented United States possessions include: Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Canal Zone Government of Panama, American Samoa, Guam, and the Ryukyu Islands. Washington D.C. is also included.
Notable signatures include: Ted Kennedy, Eugene McCarthy, Russell Long, Hubert Humphrey, Barry Goldwater, Strom Thurmond, Mike Mansfield, Nelson Rockefeller, Lyndon Johnson, Robert Byrd, and later signatures of Bill Clinton and Harry Truman.

Small spine label with “XV” in gilt stamped on same color cloth. 52 seals total, compiled 1950-1960 with the seals of the states arranged in the order in which they were admitted into the Union. This album is arranged with two pages dedicated to each state or territory, the left page bearing a color-printed image of the state seal and a printed blurb describing it, the other side showcasing the seal and the autograph of the state’s or territory’s respective governor.
Aside from the 50 states, the album also includes Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the Canal Zone Government of Panama, American Samoa, and Guam.
The pages dedicated to Georgia, Michigan, North Dakota, and the Virgin Islands lack both the seal and signature. Nevada’s entry lacks a signature.
Notable signatures include: Adlai Stevensen, Nelson Rockefeller and Earl Warren.
Condition: The corners and spine ends of both albums are bumped and lightly worn, otherwise in very good condition.
