Description: American professional boxer Gene Tunney (1897-1978) exuberantly signed, in pencil, this menu for a dinner held at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH on September 5, 1939. The menu offered such delicacies as fricassee of lamb, creamed sweet breads, and baked bluefish to welcome the members of the National Alcoholic Beverage Control Association at their Second Annual Convention.
Gene Tunney was the World Heavyweight Champion from 1926-1928. He fought 68 official, professional bouts, and only lost once. The fight in which he defended his title against Jack Dempsey is one of the most famous in the boxing world, often referred to as "The Long Count Fight."
