Description: This large 1898 photograph captures a classic 19th century street scene outside the Winters Bro’s Market in Nassau, NY. Four horses bedecked with advertising blankets pull a foliage-decorated wagon, and two dapper gentlemen, one leading the team, the other standing with one foot on the wagon, pose for the camera. A sign on the wagon reads: “Winters Bro’s Makers of Celebrated Hams, Bacon & Lard”, and a festive pig’s head chomping on a corn cob is displayed next to the driver. The photo is mounted on a larger cardstock and has a caption written in calligraphic script: “First premium at Rens. Co. Fair Nassau N.Y. Sept 22nd 98”.
