Description: We offer an oversize bird’s eye view of Fort Plain, New York published by Clay and Richmond. The print is 22” x 38” housed in a period deep walnut frame with a gold liner (27 ½” x 43 ½”, outside dimensions). There are two small vignettes of local schools along the bottom flanking the title; the Clinton Liberal Institute and the Public School. The lithographic view is filled with charming, minute details... notably a pedestrian suspension bridge over the Erie canal and the Zoller House Hotel. The text along the bottom reads “Fort Plain, N. Y. 1879, From Prospect Hill, Clay and Richmond, Buffalo, N. Y.” This is a scarce print which is listed in Reps' book Views and Viewmakers of Urban America with only one institutional holding. Item #PR00359.
Condition: There are vertical tone lines visible from the original wooden backing, scattered light foxing, however the piece is in good, presentable condition.
