Description: New York State Governor Daniel D. Tompkins (1774-1825) signed this part-printed document appointing Allen Brown as the new coroner of Albany County on June 28, 1811.
 
Tompkins served as the fourth Governor of New York (1807-1817) and went on to serve as James Monroe’s Vice President (1817-1825).
 
The embossed star-shaped seal of the State of New York is still intact above the signature of Elisha Jenkins (1772-1848), the Secretary of State of New York and later Mayor of Albany (1816-1819).
